Members’ Interests – How to benefit from them
Members’ Interests are lists of surnames that our Society members have listed as both having information on them or requiring information that they can’t yet find.
The system works by us putting together willing people to give each other assistance on their research.
The Family History Federation now have a system which allows people to look to see which Societies have researched surnames of interest. To use this system, go to www.familyhistoryfederation.com & click on the menu item “Surname Interests”.
On this site, you can find surnames of interest as follows, depending on whether or not you are a Calderdale FHS member.
For Calderdale FHS members.
If you are a member of our Society & want to use the Members’ Interests system, log on with your username & password, go to the Menu item “Members’ Area/Members Interests” & select “Search Interests”. Once there, key in the surname you want &, if you find one of interest, E-Mail your fellow member who has posted that entry. You may then be able to help each other.
For people NOT Calderdale FHS Members.
If you are not a CFHS Society Member, the surnames that have been researched can be found on the Family History Federation (FHF) website www.familyhistoryfederation.com Once there, click on the menu item “Surname Interests” & search for the surname that you want. Many FH Societies, including ours, have posted their entries on that site, but, to comply with GDPR, there are no personal E-Mail addresses.
If you find an entry of interest, click on the Family History address below the item & it will take you to that Society’s website where you should follow the instructions given.
However, if that society is ours there is no need to come back to this site. “Highlight” the relevant row of data for the name of interest from the FHF website “Copy” it & “Paste” it into an E-Mail. Then send that E-Mail to email@example.com together with your name & the E-mail address that you would like us to reply to, if it is different from the E-mail address that you are currently using.
What happens next ?
Once our Search Coordinator receives your E-mail, she will contact our Society member & pass on the details that you have sent us. It will then be up to that person to contact you to allow a conversation between you to start.
We hope that our members will reply to you, so that everyone benefits from your request.
