British Library Newspaper Collection
This site contains articles from 49 London, national and regional newspapers published in the C19th. The collection is fully text searchable.
West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS)
WYAS preserves the local heritage of historical documents of all kinds dating from the twelfth century to the present day.
There are offices in Wakefield, Bradford, Calderdale (Halifax), Kirklees (Huddersfield), and Leeds.
WYAS offers a wide range of services to help you use the collection, including using archives in our searchrooms, our Research Service.
The West Riding Registry of Deeds is one of very few in the country and provides a wealth of information about the land transactions that occurred in the county from the mid C18th.
The Yorkshire Archaeological & Historical Society
The Society exists to promote the study of Yorkshire’s past. founded in 1863 (as the Huddersfield Archaeological and Topographical Association) to promote interest in the history and archaeology of the Huddersfield area, the Society encourages interest in Yorkshire’s past and promotes the study of its history through events, lectures and outings.
There is a library and archive collection at The Brotherton Library in Leeds. For access, an appointment is necessary. Details can be found on the Society website www.yas.org.uk
